i'm off on vacation! flying off to HK and then thailand (bangkok and phuket). i'll take lots of pics and videos for yah to tell you all about my trip! :)

merry xmas!!

merry xmas everyone! my auntie anna, uncle mike and cousins tim, john and paul all came up to stay with us. we made them a little fatter. hehehe.

menu - prime rib, king crab, see qua, chinese stirfried veggies, blueberry muffins (recipe from scratch, learned from hunny's brother stanley) and many many cuties. (those tangerines that are seedless) i bought two boxes of cuties, the cousins loved them! so i went and bought two more boxes this morning. hehe.

cutest thing ever

Photo Sharing - Upload Video - Video Sharing - Share Photos

i caught my parents learning how to swing dance from a dvd. you can hear their slippers go clack, clack, clack as they step. soooooooo cute!

mom is sick right now, so i bought her seuy gow(dumplings) since she likes to eat those when she's sick. i made her a bowl of them this morning. however the dumplings i got weren't as good as the regular ones we get...they didn't seem to have them in stock when i went to ranch 99. =P dad calls almost every hour from work to check on how my mom is doing. he calls me on my cell phone also to check on me when i'm sick. the pharmacist in him will be there forever and ever.

company party at menara

the innovation management sciences team! my firm does technology investments with a focus on intellectual property. basically, we view patents like mini start ups. how can this help entrepreneurs? well many entrepreneurs don't want to patent since it takes time and money they don't have. also if someone is infringing, a little start up cannot compete against a larger company. what we do is if we see a really good idea that we are interested in "investing" in, then we will write up the patent, file it, and take care of the licensing and litigation. it's kind of like outsourcing a company's legal department as for as patents are concerned. cool huh?

on friday we went to a holiday party at menara in san jose. bellydancing and morroccan food. at first, i thought it was a strange place to have a holiday party, but later on in the evening it turned out to be perfect! the food was different but all very good. you have to eat with your hands. you also have to order the same meal for the whole table because it's family style. i didn't really like eating with my hands all that much since i was wearing black and got stuff all over the pants i was wearing. however the food was rather tasty. for 40 bux though, it was a one time event since i can do without seeing the aging belly dancers with muffin tops (i just learned what this is - check it out in the urban dictionary). a fun and memorable night definitely! i really liked the washing of the hands with rose water, and the interesting sweet tea at the end of the nite. also the lamb dish was really tasty.

STIRR Winter Wonderland

STIRR Winter Wonderland

the networking org that i'm a part of just did a holiday party for startups. remember that party that i mentioned a while back while looking for venues in sf for 150 people? well, it exploded to 470 people. big thanks to gabriel venture partners and the many other sponsors. the support we had from the sponsors allowed us to knock down the $120 per head cost to $20 bux for each attendee. wow! it was definitely hectic planning for the huge party. the other STIRR team members who do it full time put in many many hours of sleepless nights. In the end, it was an awesome venue - Exploratorium! really yummy food - i had three pieces of the beef. mmmm....cooked so it was med rare, juicy, tender and still pink inside. I believe it was the best i've had for beef that was made in mass quantities. (aside from the tri tip at Rosenblum...this was a tie). There were attendees from over 110 different companies, people seemed to love all the prizes available and had fun with the games we planned. however the card game was crazy. people had to match playing cards (king of hearts, 5 of diamonds, etc) to earn prizes. we thought everyone would be really orderly, but instead the whole crowd went crazy with getting to the prizes. lesson learned...don't do that again! all in all, it seemed people had a good time playing with all the displays at the exploratorium, mingling with other people, enjoyed the live band, and ate good food. it was short - 7 to 11. but hopefully people will be talking about this event for quite some time.

three decades

i'm officially three decades old as of this sunday. how does it feel? no different really. i was a little sad at first to say goodbye to the twenties. many things have happened last decade which have shaped me into the person i am today. however the thirties still hold a lot of promise. many more new experiences to come.

so what has been going on since last week? let's see....

sandy had baby Erin! 8lbs 6 ounces. no meds. she was so brave! i saw everything in the delivery room. it was SO AMAZING! i feel so lucky that she wanted to share that special moment with me. it was not gross or scary like everyone always says deliveries are. it was just...amazing! sure there was blood and stuff, but a little life was coming into the world! imagine what it was like for all of us, breathing for the first time, looking into a loving face for the first time... congrats sandy on your beautiful baby girl! again...the cutest baby...two huge dimples!

also had multiple bday dinners. all delicious of course! cathy, aymerik and elaine took me to my fav place in the city, the house. had the sea bass (sorry jyan!) again - who could resist! they also now have the chocolate cake special on the menu. yum! then diana organized a wonderful dinner at Osteria. it was perfect! the crowd was somewhat small, the table was cozy, the food and wine were delicious. perfect for a rainy day spent with good friends.

then saturday was a sushi dinner at my fav sushi place in hayward. Ray's sushi. i wish i took more pics, i forgot to get out my camera! it was mostly hunny's HS friends and their sig others. it worked out perfectly since there were so many people. the rolls there are very large and with so many people, each person could try one piece of every kind of roll. we also ordered the huge hamachi kama again.yum!

then was the party at ROE on saturday nite. Stacy organized a huge gathering and about 112 people showed up! sylvie came out, i haven't seen her in years! i've known her since 4th grade. elaine, john, jon, lisa, marlyanne, sanford, albert, dave, diana, and many many others all came out to celebrate. the place was crowded but we didn't care. dancing all nite long! :) i was luckily able to keep the drinking at a manageable rate and was only nicely buzzed most of the evening. when i woke up the following morning, no hangover, only wonderful memories as i looked through all the pictures.

sunday hunny took my family out for another bday dinner at dynasty. we had the smoked sea bass (sorry again jyan!) beef filet, lobster rice, mmmm....

thanks everyone for making this such a great bday~! what a great transition into my thirties.

OH also, work has officially offered me a fulltime position. (i was contracting before) i will make the switch in january.

good friends

i carpooled with hunny today and he has a team building event until 8pm today. so i'm sitting in my office waiting for him. i suppose i could have tried to go to mike's bday dinner. however my back started hurting since it's that time of the month and i really don't feel like socializing with a bunch of people right now. but i don't mind socializing with close friend. i told diana my predicament of being stuck at work until 8 and she is heading over right now so we can meet up before she heads off to dinner at 7:15! and she's also giving me a voucher for 30% off at BR since i told her i will be shopping with hunny tomorrow. diana is the bestest!!:D
