thought for the day

why do fourty somethings like to go watch trance dj's and practically strip on the dance floor? *ponder*

the man and woman were both old and HUGE. the woman was taking his shirt off and rubbing his hairy carpet of a chest. EWWWW!!!!! cmon now people, i didn't need to see that.

lotta weirdos and really really old guys (as in old enough to be grandpa's!!! EW!!). me and the girls were doing a lot of "elbow" dancing. hahaha
*jab* *jab* *kick* *Jab*

i give thanks

went to NYC to see amy again for thankgiving break. catch a ride with yanni and crash at amy's. i would say it's cheap, but NYC just is a bottomless pit for cash. oh well, only live once. diana and sabby came out. boy did we tear up the town!

notables of the weekend (in no particular order of course):
-10 hour commute to NYC (ugh) and yanni and i didn't kill eachother
-chilled at home with amy the first weekend and finished some schoolwork, even on a saturday nite!
-last dinner with karen "time to flip!" before she moved to hawaii, also rita and friends
-burger and fries at the Shake Shack just BEFORE dinner! hahahah.....
-dinner with don (hedge fund guy), waiming, and amy at a sushi place that we all were conveniently close by
-hanging out with rita on 5th ave
-dinner at that triangle shaped building with sabby, amy and susan, forgot the name. awesome filet.
-more shopping with sab
-drinks at hotel gansevoort
-clubbing at PM (walked right into the club. HA!)
-cooking a thanksgiving dinner (turkey with rosemary and shallots) and eating with 9 friends, mine and amy's. awesome cooking by all along with many bottles of wine.
-seeing oakenfold on thanksgiving evening at crobar - awesome!
-cider at a speak easy (chumley's) and mediterranean pizza's at Moustache
-hanging with cousin bernard as our diana replacement a la sex and the city
-hot chocolate at a chocolate shop (we hit one on soho and one in midtown - "chocolate bla bla bla" is it's real name)
-cream puffs at a place on 48th and 1st
-late nite korean food at kunjip TWICE!!
-van gogh's drawings at the Met
-russian exhibit at the Gugenheim - hooray for citibank employees along for 4 guests getting into museums for free
-taiwanese breakfast (sou bing and yuo tieu) in flushing - man it's farrrrrrrrr.....
-gyro's at the cart on 6th and 53rd - it's all in the sauce. the line was 1 hr long for CART food!!!
-dinner and a movie (shopgirl) with my bed buddy amy as the best clincher for thanksgiving break

i wish i could have met up with auntie pauline. i figured that the family was probably in the washington DC house rather than the NYC place. i missed my family. so sad they only ate porridge with preserved egg and pork for thanksgiving! well, my mom's porridge is rather good....

i'm very thankful for my family, my health and my friends. :)

it was so nice to hang with the girls (and bernard) in NYC. wether it be chatting in a small coffee shop or partying in a happening club. it's amazing when friends can feel like home. close friendships are rare and hard to come by. i cherish every one. funny thing is, we had such a long and exhaustive list of events over the course of the week. however, i would have been just as happy if we hadn't don't any of them and had just hung out and chatted all week at someone's house. not that it wasn't fun, but the best part was the people i was with, not the thing i was doing. none of those things would have been fun without my friends. although many thanks to gracious hostess amy for providing all the options!! cuz hey, i'm not exactly a homebody all the time. haha... i miss you guys!

:(

so it's not that I was missing ram, but rather one of the ram slots is broken. and it would be really expensive to fix. boooo. also, when i was installing the ram at the apple store, something sharp on the counter scratched up the cover. and my back hurts. and it's freezing outside :(:(:( boo.

*grumble*

i was jipped!

so i'm not a very good gadget geek. all this time i assumed that my laptop had 512mb of ram. because i have the 1.5 Ghz chip with the superdrive model in which 512 ram is standard. recently i bought an additional gig of ram. (hooray for that!!) and when i'm checking the slots, what do i find??!! only 256 ram!! WTF??!!! i can't believe i didn't check it all this time. however, i'm amazed that it was as fast as it was with only 256 ram. i wonder if it would be faster with the tiger OS.

the good thing is that i will now love my laptop even more. it will be like driving a porsche after driving a pinto all this time! 256 to 1.25 G baby! VRRRRRROOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!

p.s. two more ladybugs since the last ladybug post.

does anyone remember what that is? that's right boys and girls, it's calculus! HOORAY!!! first derivatives, second derivatives. that's how CMU like to teach you finance. i'm REALLY hating this optimization methods in finance course. i feel so STUPID.

akk...been so bogged down with homework lately. i need to do more club related stuff. but it's been good for my schoolwork i suppose. my team won in our valuations class to get the closest valuation close to what the company released for this quarter. so we all get gift certificates. think that i can get another certificate from apple so i can be a little closer to getting my nano? i already have a 50 dollar gift cert from winning the halloween costume contest. and i'm selling the ipod mini that hunny doesn't want on ebay since he gave it to me.

i know i know, friends keep trying to get the nano for me as a gift. but as soon as i find out they want to, then i don't want them to spend the money. (god i feel like my parents.) so sandy, we're still on for the pizza and chocolate cake nite for my bday. invite the usual suspects. :) I think i also derive more satisfaction when i save up the money myself and do all the purchasing research on finding the best price. strange how i like to do that with my gadgets but i have no patience to do that with clothes shopping.

ok back to the books. i need to get everything done so i can visit amy in nyc. diana and sabby might go too! yay!!! so funny because they didn't even know i was planning on going. hahah....

ladybugs

For some reason my room is being attacked by ladybugs! I've already killed two in the last couple of days and another one flew in my room just now. They really freak me out at first because they are rather large and they tend to bump very loudly all over the walls of my room. ewwww.........i hate bugs. even ladybugs are not very cute when they are in my room.

M R BUGS!
...
M N O BUGS
...
S M R
C D E D B D eyes
N D E D B D legs
M R BUGS!
...
O S! M R BUGS!

i'm not stupid. reene and kareny-pooh will get this. hahaha....

It's stuck in the light above my desk. does that mean i have to fish out the lady bug? ewwww.....
if i don't i'm going to imagine it crawling into my mouth while i sleep. gross!

dilemma

we have to form groups of 5 for valuations class. no more than 5. so yanni and i got bumped out from our normal group because of that limit. so then a phd in ece who is also taking the class asks to be in my group. i say ok. but then later he says he can't make the final presentation. so i say, lemme ask erik (yanni). but then when yanni came over, he seemed like he was ok with the phd even though i expected him not to be. so then i thought all was good since we were a group of three and we could work together with another group of three if there was too much work. however yanni decides that he's not ok with phd not participating in the final presentation and he defects to a group with fred. then i'm stuck with phd and a group that is too small. ah what to do. yanni was our strong finance guy. generally a good group doesn't have to be all strong finance types, just one or two will do. but then i'm certainly not a financial wizard, i'm only ok when it comes to that stuff. i was able to get by fine during my internship only because finance in the real world is ten times easier than at school.

after that long winded and convoluted explaination, here's the dilemma. yanni's group has one more spot open and i've worked with all those people before. there is only one person on that group who i don't like very much, however i think he may be good with valuations. he's just lazy and you have to kick his ass to do stuff. so do i ditch the phd and leave him with the group of first years? that group also will probably have an mscf guy, basically mscf (masters in computational finance) people at tepper are masters of finance. however the phd only knows me, not the rest of the group. so do i ditch the phd with that group and join yanni's group? or do i stay and take my chances with a group i've never worked with. *contemplate*

in other news, halloween was fun. even the dean came out dressed up as peter pan. the dean of the school in green tights. that was quite a sight. i won the costume contest, but it wasn't hard because all i had to do was make the most noise and wave my arms about to get people to root for me. but hey, i got a gift certificate out of it. yay!

i don't think i'm going to go home for thanksgiving. booo.....tickets are ove 500 bux! highway robbery.
