NYC

So i've been in NYC visiting amy because of a finance trip to visit all the banks in the area. all the ibankers i've met seem like pricks. may i never become an nyc ibanker...

however i have eaten lots n lots of good food here. korean, brazilian, shanghainese..yum! also a great relaxing vacation, chilling with amy almost every nite, cooking and watching movies.

also while i've been here i've been checking out the other bschools. went to columbia to see lisa on monday. went to an nyu event to meet people from stern yesterday. i think i made a good choice by picking carnegie. it seems that's where i fit the best. :)

i got a haircut yesterday while i was in chinatown. i loved it when she had it all styled and curled for me. but this morning after all the curls washed out i really got to see the haircut. i don't think i like it very much. i MUST remember not to layer so much. i do this every time i go to the stylist. i look at all the trendy cute girls around me and i want something trendy and cute. so i tell the stylist to do whatever they want to my hair. and so they do some drastic layering...and the end result is something i really don't like. i must remember that i'm just into more classic looks and i never like myself with trendy styles... someone please remind me next time i get a haircut...

I've been idle for about a week ( meaning no studying and tests). i've taken care of all the shopping i needed. ( i'm SO sick of shopping now...and i already don't really like to shop much in the first place). getting antsy. time to go back to school. i can't wait to get back tomorrow...

the wind has a bite to it, the leaves are turning colors. there is frost on the grass now early in the morning and i can see my breath misting in the air while walking to class.

Takeo Kanade : Robotics Technologies and Business Applications

okie so the topic sounds boring. but it was a really kool presentation!

there was a car which could navigate itself on the road, even drove across the US and back with no driver!
a helicopter that could fly completely autonomously. hard to do since there are so many things to control on a helicopter just to stay up in the air. the helicopter could search and find a missing person in a field or in the ocean....even survey an area using lazers. kool huh?

Takeo also showcased his work with robotic cameras which allowed matrix like effects during the superbowl. basically a camera would follow a selected player around, as the player ran on the field, some cameras would zoom in and others would zoom out and take shots during the same period of time. so essentially you could freeze frame during the game and view all angles of the play.

amazing technology comes out of CMU.

the kool thing was that Takeo was cracking jokes the whole time. such a funny little man. hahaha...seemed like a big kid who just had fun making neat toys. :)

FINALS WEEK

eeesh...projects, papers and tests. oh my!!!

i wish i still had midnite yell. ( for those non-bruins, midnite yell is a phenomenon at UCLA in which all students will scream out the window every nite during finals week.) screaming at the top of my lungs at midnite. that was great. :)

okie you won't be hearing from me in a while. but i'm still alive..i promise.

hunny came to visit!

Photo sharing by JussPress.com

thursday hunny arrived at around 10:30. i was sooooo happy to see him! i heard his footsteps outside as i was waiting out front since it's really hard to see the numbers on the houses at nite. as soon as i saw him i ran to give him a hug! i didn't even stop to take the roses he was trying to give me! it was so nice to see him this weekend... i miss him already. friday i cooked dinner for him as well as a bunch of my school friends. it was the first time i've cooked for him. haha..i don't think he believed me when i told i could cook. and what was on the menu you ask? fried dumplings, choy sum, salmon (with green onion, soy sauce ...just like mom and dad's), silver noodles with lap cheung, mao po tofu ( not from the packet!) everyone had a great time. we had bottles of wine with dinner and cold stone ice cream for dessert!

saturday we woke up early to drive to virginia. got lost trying to get to the hotel. saw the pentagon and the washington monument like a million times. good thing we left so early...we just barely got dressed up in our wedding attire just before the wedding. i didn't know it was SO confusing to drive in DC!! not to mention i'm the worst person to bring with you to help with directions...aiyah. the wedding was beautiful! simple and elegant at a country club. harp playing canon in D as the procession started.

sunday we had lunch with frank and carol.

they just got engaged! i've never met a more happier couple. just seeing them together makes happy. :)

yesterday hunny and i drove home. i really like d oing road trips with him. we can just chat the whole way. and he's so nice, he always drives all himself and never asks me to drive. yay! when we got home i had to write a paper so he did some work while i did my paper. hunny left this afternoon...i miss you already!!!

okie i need to work on another paper now. just wanted to update everyone on my weekend.

It's so kool to be a tepper

happy anniversary mom and dad!!

today is the 29th anniversary for my mom and dad. can you believe that? 29 years together and going strong. i love seeing my parents together...the way they joke together, the way they cook together. other than when my dad is at work, they are never apart. even when my mom wants to go shopping for hours and hours...my dad is always by her side. the sweet thing is that unlike other asian parents, they are completely affectionate with eachother. my mom will hold my dad's hand when walking outside. they give eachother smooches all the time in public...

i hope one day i will be like that with my future husband too....
