mass markets

so for my job, i have to keep in touch with the mass markets. that means i get to surf the web and read stuff. haha!! however i can't keep up with everything. So far, the bosses were impressed with my knowledge of yelp, chowhound, metacrawler, and social networking sites. how funny is that... but i know there are tons of things i haven't seen yet.

i'm always up for checking out something new. if all of you readers out there come across something totally kool, lemme know! :) blog about it!

aama conference

my friend ben asked me to volunteer last minute at this conference. at first i was dreading it since i had to be there at 7:30 AM. you KNOW i'm not a morning person. but it turned out to be a great event! met lots of VC's, although i wish i had the opportunity to get to know them better. many of them would only pop in and out of the event since they were so busy. tim draper spoke. he sang also!! Ray Lane from kleiner spoke also. VC's from local as well as international attended. Entrepreneurs also from all industries and locations were there. i was able to get my mom and dad free tickets, tix were 500 bux! but that's not unsual for a conference.

lyrics for tim draper's song are below. you're a VC geek if you laugh. haha.

The Riskmaster

Invested all his mattress money
Divorced his Prom Queen hometown honey
Scraping up his alimony
Friends think he’s a little funny

Needs a “world class CEO.”
Just another million or so
Get him to some real cash flow
So tears and sweat can IPO

For 15 years he’s been out gunned
Bankers demanding blood refund
Company’s looking Moribund
Even Draper will not fund!

Chorus:
He is the Riskmaster
Lives fast drives faster
Skates on the edge of disaster
He is the Riskmaster

He’s got a mission
Company vision
An artist’s ambition
Gut intuition
Fearless and free employee
No guarantee for the Corporate escapee

Team fights on against the trend
Had to lay off his best friend
Called a “recession” seems like “depression.”
Chapter seven. Is this the end?

But then a salesman shouts, “We got it!”
The company’s gonna show a profit
To think the papers rang, “quixotic”
The sky has opened astronautic.

Chorus:
He is the Riskmaster
Lives fast drives faster
Skates on the edge of disaster
He is the Riskmaster

He is on top, on top of the world
At last they see it. Vision unfurled!
Cashflow landslide!
Now everybody wants a piece of his hide.
Court wants him tried. Press wants him fried.
Anyone this rich must have lied.

Chorus:
He is the Riskmaster
Lives fast drives faster
Skates on the edge of disaster
He is the Riskmaster

the office

i've started my new job! i LOVE IT! even though it hasn't been that long, i've hit the ground running. started analyzing a patent on my first day and getting a list of business dev calls. yesterday's meeting consisted of talking about various social networks. how cool is that!!?? i do that for fun with friends at networking events. and now i get paid to talk about those things??!! they also need someone to pitch ideas to VC. that's wayyy cool too! and if we decide the technology is interesting, we may acquire the company to turn it around. yay!

i've been trying to figure out a good commute. 85 is always so congested! tomorrow i'll try going up 280 and exiting magdelena. that will take me to el camino. btw i love my office! it's right on castro, it's nice and modern, and i get my own huge office! also free arizona green teas and cliff bars. hehe.

lovefest

lotsa love for everyone. this year i attended SF's LoveFest for the first time. it's a grand parading spectacle of trance music fans. i must say i was astouded by the diversity of people there. older, younger, eccentric, conservative, they were all out there. plenty of naked guys for some reason. it's funny, hunny and i ran into paul at the gym --paul does a lot of different events and mentioned he noticed the same naked guy at all the events (bay to breakers, love fest, and any other event that allows naked people) i guess some people just wanna find every excuse to be naked. haha. although some might be disgusted by general human nakedness, i think it's very characteristic of SF. seeing all the colorful cross dressers, punk rockers, and trancers all in the same place, makes me really appreciate the diversity and creativity of californians. you would definitely not see those kinds of people in any other state partying together. creativity, no matter how it's expressed, should be appreciated.

cough cough cough

i've had this annoying cough for over a month. dad keeps saying it's allergies so i haven't gone to the doc. but after vegas it got a whole lot worse so i went to the doc today. the smoke was really irritating me and making me cough more. ugh. after seeing the doc, turns out it's my asthma and i needed new asthma meds. i also got a round of antibiotics just in case it's something viral on top of my asthma. however when the doc listened to my lungs, he said there wasn't much liquid there, and my breath test showed i didn't have much lung capacity - indicating bronchoconstriction. so now i'm supposed to use my inhaler 3 times a day, i normally only use it before i work out. and i got another steroidal drug - advair. this better work!!! i've stopped running for two weeks and i need to get started again so i can make it for my half marathon. i'm not going to start running again until i've at least finished my antibiotics. luckily one round is only 5 days.

asthma sucks

viva las vegas!

so we went to las vegas for the long weekend. here are some of the highlights

friday - arrived in really HOT weather, dinner at nine for steaks. mmmmmm.... then headed off to tao for clubbing. really fun place but HUGE! i kept getting lost trying to find the exit.

saturday - woke up late, lunch at a deli with fresh squeezed OJ, blueberry pancakes and an egg white omelette with sausage, cheese and mushrooms. will was my food buddy the whole weekend so i got to share with him. shopped a little but didn't buy anything. had a very refreshing peach smoothie while stacey was taking forever picking out a pair of sunglasses. went to vy's pageant - miss vietnam usa. some girls were really pretty, some girls were not. everything was in vietnamese so i couldn't understand anything. will, aaron, stacey and i took off a little early since we couldn't understand anything and were starving. Vy didn't win, but we found out it's rigged, those that donate the most money will win. what a scam! ate dinner at the burger joint in our hotel, then got ready for the partying sat nite. everyone dressed up! so cute! got home around 5am. for some reason i had enough energy until 7 am chatting with will while everyone slept at 5:30 am.

sunday - woke up wayyyy late and had lunch at the burger bar. shared a kobe burger and a ceasar salad. met up with aaron's friends linda, serena, and sheryl. the girls were nice but just a little boring...didn't make much conversation. hung out by the pool, then had dinner at bellagio buffet. i can't eat buffet like i used to. :( don't worry, still no fillers allowed. haha. then went to hang out at tabu in mgm. it was just right. i didn't get all the dancing out of my system sat nite, so i needed to dance! there was plenty of room for people to lounge around and yet they played hip hop and eighties music so it was really fun to dance all goofy! went home around 3am. i was one of the last ones still dancing. haha.

things i've learned or well, actually i've always known...all it takes is good music and good people for me to have a TON of fun.
