congrats warren and vicky!

i just got the koolest phone call ever. diana called me while at warren's wedding and passed the phone around the table! it was so nice hearing from everyone. carol, frank, ansen, sabrina, jimmy, jason... i sooo wish i coulda been there but instead i'm stuck here studying for finals. thanks so much for the call, it really made my day, week, month! :)

on another side note, check out this link. all i can say is that compared to this, i live in a palace! it's from one of my classmates.

mel is comin home!!

i just accepted an offer from one of the biotechs. it's a sweet gig where i will work with one of my old coworkers who is the senior director of business development. he's going to have me working on million dollar deals if possible. and there are maybe 3 possible deals over the course of the summer. even my mentor/prof agrees that it's much better experience than at a VC since i would get a whole lot of responsibility. i also chatted with a managing partner at a huge biotech vc. she's been in the biz since 1990. even she said that the bus dev experience would be much better for my career since a VC will prolly just have me read business plans and do boring stuff. i'm soooooo excited i get to be going home. and it's in san jose! no more long commute!

it's finals time. I just had one early final and the rest will be next week. it's sooooo hard to concentrate while i'm thinking about going back to the bay area.

list of things to do when i get home:
give hugs to all the people i've missed
see all my friends that i haven't chatted with
have another oyster fest
have a pool party
have a bonfire at the beach
swim every chance i get
learn how to golf
have lunches with the VC's i've chatted with
eat all the food i've missed
the list goes on...but i have to study!

ordinarily the first thing i would want to do is see my hunny...but he'll be in austrailia on vacation! that lucky pooper.

Mr. Brightside

Mr. Brightside - The Killers has been a fav song of mine recently. Also Switch by Will Smith. i really like hip hop that doesn't have to be all hard core all the time.

anyways...

i've been interviewing. mostly positions in the bay area. locked down my first offer...woo hoo!! doesn't pay a lot but i would be able to have a lot of decision making power for an intern. basically...if i want to start a up a marketing program in china...i just fly myself right on over and start! they really like me so i have flexibility to respond to their offer a little later since the other companies i'm talking to also seem so interesting and i won't be able to interview with them until next week. there are some very intriguing business develepment opportunities. now with biotech...this is HUGE. biotechs don't normally hire business dev positions without a Phd or MD. and this will be with a company which is already large but i'm sure will be taking off even more in the next few years. I'm also talking to a VC firm in palo alto and will find out in a week if they have a spot. i'm in a good place i know...good choices to choose from. but it's been on my mind all week...worrying about which will be the best choice for my career. what if the vc position doesn't give me as many responsiblities as i would like ...is the business dev position better because it makes me more visible? do VC's only care about if i was working for a VC or what responsibilities i have had? I'm meeting up with a biotech VC panel this week. one of them has become a friend of mine. perhaps i'll ask him. hooray for mentors in the industry. :D

i have homework and projects due....i'm so distracted cuz i just want to go home already....

bay area here i come!
