pub crawls, beers, and finals

so this is it. final stretch. been doing some reflecting on my years at cmu. our last pub crawl was on thursday. our last beers was yesterday. everyone had matching hawaiian shirts with our "tepper mba - '06" embroidered on the pocket. it was both cheesy yet somehow cool. it's so surreal that these people whom i've i've gotten to know over the years...i'm not going to see them walking in the halls anymore. cynthia, the mom of three - she had kids as a teenager and now, after putting herself through undergrad and grad school, is going to be in a high profile management rotation program at amazon. many consultants and ibankers in the bunch. mark is going to a biotech consulting gig in boston, just got his bid accepted for a house. i have such goofy memories of him being silly. yanni and tiny are both in high profile trading jobs. with many classmates, we both cried at our loads of homework together and laughed and out silly antics. "tiny's ass pillow", the eternal girl problems of all the tepper boys, the mundy incident, the boycrazy girls, late nite runs to primanti brothers, "blah" , "erg", "my jeans are so sexy". haha...laughing at everything yanni does. now we all have to put on our grown up masks and behave like adults in the real world. u think we can fool everyone into thinking we are polished and professional? hahah...

for now i'm trying not to freak out about selling my stuff in time and finals. finals have commenced and so i will be mia until may 12th. i feel the stress coming on, but being that it's not a new feeling, i'm ready. see you on the other side...

carnival

twas a great celebration. all classes were cancelled, there was a fair that had booths created by the students. some were extremely creative and you could tell a lot of work went into the design and construction. i tried fried oreos for the first time. sounds extremely unhealthy i know, but it's seriously some warm, soft, crispy chocolatey goodness. i only had two. :) there was also a huge fireworks show to signal the end of carnival last nite. it was much better than i anticipated! the grand finale was probably the best one i've ever seen. the whole sky seemed lit up at once!! glad we braved the droplets to watch. :)

i've been trying to go gymming as much as possible. running almost every other day. however, despite my best efforts, i just can't refuse good food. we had hot pot yesterday and i ate a whole bunch. weighed myself after this morning's workout. still the same weight! argh. let's just hope i'm losing fat and creating more muscle.

in mourning

i lost my camera this weekend. :( sooooooo sad. it was a hectic weekend due to international festival and welcome weekend. somehow i misplaced it. soooooooo sad :(:( i feel silly being so attached to a gadget. but i am attached, i can't help it.

i heart firefox, moving back to the bay

i just made the switch from safari to firefox and installed all these lovely extensions to make my life easier. why didn't i do this sooner??!!

i also heart hunny. i've been lamenting about finding a job - he reminds me everything will be ok, i always worry more than i need to. i've been wondering how i'm going to afford buying a place and paying off my school loans, roommates won't be able to cover enough - he offered for me to move in with him in his house, although i don't think my parents would be kool with that. (what do you think? i'll be turning 30 in dec. reasonable or not reasonable to live with bf of 2.5 years??)

so many things to take care of. i need to sell off all my school things in the next few weeks! i also have a final may 16th!! argH!!! all the other teppers will be done may 5th!! i want to visit amy right before graduation. since she's at work all day, that's when i'll be studying for my final. :-p

so today started out as a wonderful spring day. sunshine, students tanning on the lawn, even a home-made slip and slide on the grass. (remember those?) and then i go for a run....and just as i'm about to finish my 3 mile run, it starts pouring!!!! as i run home, huge raindrops start falling. then i get pelted by one right on top of my head..."ouch!" i think to myself - "hey, that raindrop hurt!" but it wasn't a raindrop. it was a slushball! my newly invented word for a large raindrop which was supposed to be hail but didn't quite make it since it was so warm, and thus was only partially frozen - slushball.

in other news. the competitions are done! (assuming we are not going to moot, which i don't think we plan on doing)
result - won first place for the elevator pitch and challenger round runner up in canada. about 6K in winnings in total. but we had horrible luck last weekend. himanshu, my partner in canada, got extremely sick with the flu JUST as we arrived in canada. coughing, sneezing, body aches, the whole bit. i felt soooo bad for him. but at the same time, i couldn't help but be a little dissappointed since it meant our presentation was not going to be the most enthusiastic. although i did think we did ok considering he was so sick. we didn't make it to finals like i had expected. oh well, that's how things go. i was happy that we won the elevator pitch, completely unexpected considering i put it together on the plane ride heading to canada. in the competition in nebraska, our other team didn't fare much better and had another catastrophe. during the very first day, as they were setting up the trade show of the competition, prateek accidentaly cut his hand with a box cutter. he had to be rushed to the hospital and then receive 17 stiches and microsurgery to mend some cut tendons. crazY!!! he's ok. and his hand will be fine. we are trying to see if the school or the hotel will cover his medical bills. now that all the competitions are done, life has been a breeze. no homework this week so i went golfing, went gymming every day, and had plently of sleep. next week i have to ramp things up again because homework is due and i need to get started on all my final papers. otherwise, life is good. :) and i WILL get fit before my july party!

bunny duties

hunny dressed up in a bunny suit for his company easter party. there were kids there so he dressed up for them of course. how cute!!! this is what he just im'ed me. hahah

we just won $3500 bux in a bplan competition! woo hoo! berkeley didn't go as well since we had a judge who had a bad experience with biotech computer companies. however we made great contacts. another competition is this week, i leave thursday for canada!

i downloaded iscroll for my mac. it rocks! i now can easily scroll on my touchpad by touching two fingers and moving up or down. :)

happy bday to all my little brothers

ryan's bday was march 20. both jon's and erik's bday are april 1st. yes, i view erik (yanni) as my little brother now. haha.

can't believe my little bros are so big and grown now. just a couple weeks ago, jon told me something surprising and i exclaimed, "what? how can a bunch of teenagers do that?" he replied, mel...i'm not a teenager anymore, i'm 25! and now, he's 26! crazy! in my mind, my little brothers will always be little, naive to the world and always in need of lessons from their big sis to tell them how it is. haha....
