scrobbling fantabulously

i love last.fm! music plays such a big part in my life. listening to specific songs will greatly influence my mood. i love this site/application. it's able to detect my itunes library and make me recommendations based on other people with similar playlists. i'm discovering a lot of new artists this way. the creators were very good and figuring out how people listen to music. and they are also able to monetize in such a way that generates revenue because users truly see the value.

normally i would get new music from friends or just check out the billboards charts. however this limits me to only popular music. however i actually do like a lot of random music - indie, guitar bands, new wave, classical, folk, things that just aren't as common. rather than get music from friends, i like how last.fm will create playlists based on others with similar musical tastes. therefore eliminating the need to find friends with similar musical tastes to trade music. also, to be able to purchase songs from amazon - genius move to overtake itunes. i am definitely one of those people that need instant gratification when it comes to music. (well when it comes to most things actually.) oh so tempting to just purchase a song i really like with a click of a button!

i read the last.fm blog and found out that there was a previously older interface and that users want to go back to the old UI. would have been interesting to compare the two. as it is right now, i had a little trouble figuring out what i can do on the app versus what i can do on my internet profile. but now i get it after about 20 minutes of poking around. still need to poke around a little more to find all the cool little secrets. :) my only request would be to add a feature to allow me to play all the tracks on a particular album or from a particular artist.

i heart last.fm. well done!
