chinese food?
okay last nite i experienced my first instance of racism in pitts. we were at the bar section of cheesecake factory in station's square. the wait for dinner was 90 minutes so we decided to try to snag a table at the bar area since you can eat there. so while we were waiting, we decided to try to get a drink. as i was waiting to get to the bartender, this middle aged dad looking type guy was stading right by the bar. he had put down an empty glass and was standing there watching the tv. since i need to get by him to get to the bar, i ask him politely, "excuse me, are you getting a drink?". he then replies.."what did you think i was doing? ordering chinese food?" oh my god i just couldn't believe my ears. i mean cmon! who says those things nowadays?!! he noticed that i had this disgusted look on my face so he immediately apologized ..." sorry..bad joke" uh...yeah! what an understatement! right afterwards we got our table and so i just left the bar. the middle aged guy found me afterwards and said "where did you go? i was going to give my spot to you." no thanks...
yanni boy and tiny were so sweet. they offered to beat the guy up. hahaha...but i would feel funny beating up a dad like guy. ah wells...this is pittsburgh, not california. I contemplated making some redneck comment. but seeing as how i was in a place full of people who would find that offensive...i refrained. besides...i wouldn't want to stoop to that level.

SK: Good thing you and your friends didn't do anything to him. Not worth it and it only increases social tension. Just focus on your goal and objectives and, who knows, someday you can be his boss. Knowledge, leadership and social status will help us change the picture and that is why we can't keep on only be engineers, scientists or professionals in the back-stage. We have to go to the front-line to lead in the global scene and you have made the right choice to position yourself! Just do it.
